The beginning of July marks one of the most significant moments on the Rotary calendar: the annual Changeover Dinner, where clubs across the globe celebrate the induction of their new leadership teams and welcome the fresh Rotary year.  

On 1 July 2026, the Rotary Club of Glenelg officially ushered in the 2026–2027 leadership board. This transitional period is a time of both reflection and forward momentum—celebrating a legacy of local service while setting a clear, dynamic vision for the future.  

Setting the Vision: “Create Lasting Impact”

For this new Rotary year, the Glenelg club is rallying behind the powerful message of International President Olayinka “Yinka” Babalola: “Create Lasting Impact.”   

Rather than focusing solely on short-term efforts, the incoming board is prioritizing meaningful, sustainable community initiatives that foster deep, generational changes both locally in Glenelg and through international partnerships. It’s a fresh reminder of the organization’s foundational motto: Service Above Self.  

Celebrating Recent Successes

The induction evening served as an opportunity to look back at the incredible momentum built over the past year, driven by the dedication of the outgoing board. Some of Glenelg Rotary’s standout community benchmarks leading up to this changeover include:  

 The Annual Quiz Night: A major success that raised nearly $1,400 specifically to support St Jude’s Community Meal Program, providing vital nourishment and social connection to individuals facing food insecurity and homelessness.  

 Epic Day of Service: A massive drive collecting crucial everyday essentials for the Southern Adelaide Domestic Violence Service, directly aiding families navigating profound hardship.  

 Community Presence: From our affordable, crowd-favorite sausage sizzle at the Glenelg Ice Cream Festival (which raised $2,000 for club initiatives) to supporting the Adelaide Memory Walk & Jog for dementia research, the club remains a visible, active pillar of the local beachside community.  

The Path Forward for the New Board

With the official induction complete, the newly minted 2026–2027 Board of Directors is stepping into a year focused on membership growth, youth development, and expanding public image. By combining fellowship with structured, impactful community programs, the club is set to strengthen its ties to Holdfast Bay and beyond.

The evening provided an opportunity to reflect on the achievements of the past year, celebrate the dedication of our members, and acknowledge the leadership and service of our outgoing Board. Their commitment has helped strengthen our club and expand our impact across local and international communities.

We were also delighted to officially welcome our incoming Board of Directors, who will lead the club through the year ahead. Their willingness to serve reflects Rotary’s enduring spirit of leadership, fellowship, and commitment to making a difference. We look forward to their guidance as we continue to support meaningful projects and create positive change in the lives of others.

This Rotary year, we embrace Rotary International President Olayinka “Yinka” Babalola’s message, “Create Lasting Impact.” This message encourages Rotarians to focus on meaningful, sustainable actions that make a difference not only in our communities but also in our own lives and within our clubs.

As we begin the 2026–2027 Rotary year, we remain committed to Service Above Self, working together to create lasting change through community service, international projects, youth development, and fellowship.

Last Saturday, our club had the privilege of witnessing an inspiring display of generosity from the Glenelg community. From early morning through to the afternoon, residents stopped by our donation table, each bringing contributions that reflected both thoughtfulness and compassion. Donations came in many forms—some arrived with full bags of carefully selected essentials, while others offered a single but meaningful item. Regardless of size, every contribution carried the same powerful message: a shared commitment to supporting those in need within our community.

As the day progressed, the steady stream of support continued to build. By midday, the volume of donations had already exceeded our initial expectations, serving as a powerful reminder of the kindness and solidarity that define Glenelg. It was truly heartening to see individuals, families, and passers-by take the time to contribute, demonstrating that even small acts of generosity can collectively create a significant impact.

All items collected will be provided to the Southern Adelaide Domestic Violence Service, where they will directly assist individuals and families experiencing significant hardship. These donations will help meet immediate needs, but more importantly, they offer something beyond material support. For those receiving them, these contributions represent reassurance, dignity, and hope during what is often an incredibly challenging time. Knowing that their community stands beside them can make a meaningful difference in their journey toward safety and stability.

The success of today’s effort highlights the strength of community action and the tangible impact that can be achieved when people come together with a shared purpose. It is a testament to the collective kindness of our community and reinforces the important role we all play in supporting one another.
